Rear shock relocators- How hard to install?
 

I thought there was a FAQ on installing these but I can't find it. If anyone has done this, was it a pain to grind the rivets off? Seems like it would be tuff to get the grinder up in there. Is CPP's kit the same as ECE's kit?

it sure is alot easier to do bedless//if you have a compact enough grinder the thing that makes it bad with the bed on is the grinnding residue seems to come right back at you// my favorite grinder nowadays is my 3"airpowered cutoff wheel

I plan to do this with the bed on. Unfortunately I'll be on the ground!

I can't speak for CPP's, but I've installed ECE's on my two trucks and am very happy with fit and quality. Invest in an air chisel, it will make the job much easier... Here's some pictures of my crewcab with them installed....

I used ECE's kit. It was easy and fit was not an issue at all. I also had the bed off for grinding the rivets.

i just put 5 inch drop spring on my truck and it still sits up high in the back.i didnt change the pan hard bar nor did i use the shock relocators.do you guys think thats the reason why me truck still sit kind of high in the back???

If you try to push down on the back or bounce will it go down or are the shocks bottoming out?

I just installed 6 inch drop coils in the rear from GMC Pauls and installed a Super Track Bar From ECE. I don't have a shock relocator kit or shocks yet. I plan on using Nitro Drop Shocks. Here's how my truck looks right now.

i had some boys come over and take the bed off real quick to grind the top rivits. the bottom nuts can be a *****. i got mine from cpp, the angle of the bottom brackets were off where the shock mounts. it wasn't flush, but i put a bolt through the hole/shock anyways even though the angle's off a little.

Ok silly question, but why do you need ot relocate the rear shocks??

It will be a LOT easier to install with the bed off. I've been taking the rivets out by grinding the top flat (just a little bit so your drill bit doesn't wander- could do the same thing with a punch) and then drilling a pilot hole with an 1/8" drill bit, then drill with a 3/8" bit...one quick blow with a chisel and they pop right out.

This just saves you from grinding the frame itself AND I've totally ground a head off and not been able to get the rivet out....with the drilling it works quick and easy.

The kit fits great and went in pretty painlessly

to decrease the shock angle when lowering a truck. When they're "Laid out" the shocks are really ineffective

I did this to my Burb with the body on, it's a B@$#@#&. Take the bed OFF! :D

1 hour per rivet if you have ****ty tools.

I agree, if you have room, take the bed off. You will save time and will be less likely to get hot metal down your collar.

Rob has the best advice..... zip gun/air chisel and use ECE stuff.

sure made the job easier for us.

I recently installed the ECE kit with the bed on. I followed the angle grinder / air hammer technique:

It was a little tricky getting the angle grinder in there to grind the rivet heads, but if a rookie like me can do it, I'm sure you can. The air hammer was crucial, though. I borrowed my neighbor's Snap-On and it worked great.
