wanted: info on headers for lowered trucks

Hey, anyone know the cheapest (well, best value) headers that will fit on a lowered 73-87? Thanks for any info.

Might ask that question up on the engine board, but any of the NAME companies offer good stuff depends on how much you want to pay, for coatings or painted etc.
You didn't say if you wanted full length or shorty's. What kind of motor and horses? Cam, intake, any mods? Automatic or manual?

Jegs has the Dynomax at the best prices...$95 for black painted shorties and $219.95 for ceramic coated. They will be back ordered for 2 - 3 weeks however.

i heard that shorties hit the motor mount brackets on 73-87's?

stllookn 11-14-2002 02:08 AM

Evidently not the shorties but the block huggers do. I just tried to install Headman block huggers for street rods and they hit the back of the motor mounts. Shorties angle back and will miss. I just ordered mine today from Jegs.

You don't need any special headers on a lowered truck. I have a 4" drop in front and run Hooker Comp headers and will be getting Super Comp for the big block. I have NEVER scraped on anything with them either.

i bet i'll scrape with my 5" drop

I doubt it...with my 4" and full length headers I still had plenty of clearance. If you are gonna run 15" rims with super low profile tires then it might get close...but otherwise you won't

but if you are a bettin man then lets do it... :)

ocbaud 11-14-2002 03:16 PM

i'll have 27" tires on there

We have Hedman headers, 15 inch wheels with 50 series tires and about 1-1/2 inches of clearance with 5 inches of drop. That is without anyone in the truck. Won't go over my own speed bumps...LOL! Other headers might be higher but I don't like seeing hang down below the frame that far.
