Vintage air install

Just curious if anyone here has installed a vintage air heater/a.c. system in their trucks and if so how hard was it?

bingo, slonaker....good memory ;)

it was a good winter project.tore my cab completly down and put dynamat and carpet in at the same time.it's not real difficult.but it's alot easier to tear out everything.which may be a hassle if it's your daily driver.i mainly had some bracket issue's as i swapped the compressor and alt to the other side from there stock location's.they have pretty good instruction's and their tech support is helpful.and the bottom line is it really perform's well.let me know if you need anymore help or have a specific question.glad to help.

Hey Boatpuller how about some pictures of the engine compartment? I'd like to see how things mount up under the hood. Thanks!

here is mine. I had it installed at the body shop while it was apart after the wreckI was involved in last year. I helped with it some. it really was pretty strait forward, instruction were easy to follow. works & looks great.

Now my next question is.... Can this set up be hooked up to an O.E.M. A.C. compressor on a 1990 suburban with a serpentine belt system where the compressor mounts on the passengers side?

Stepside454, did your truck have factory a/c ? I will be installing a Dropmember on my 77 with fact. a/c and you have to remove the fact. stuff for tire clearence. That set up look's super clean, and would solve my prob.

Re: Vintage air install

yes mine was a factory ac truck. this is a Sure-Fit Kit from Vintage Air. You have to use a non A/C dash controller with it. John

Why did they install the compressor on the left hand side? On the right the lines would be shorter and not cross over the engine.

Does it fit in the opening for the existing controls and take over all the functions? For 399.00 it should.

than I would have had to buy new alternater brkts(already had these). Also, the sure fit kit for this truck mounts the compressor on the drivers side, if it were mounted on the pass. side, I would have to toss the lines that come with the system & make all new lines

Re: Vintage air install

How much is the vintage air kit for our trucks? I cant find prices anywhere...

Any online dealers? Three dealers numbers I called listed in Ohio on vintage's website are out of service.

Re: Vintage air install

I paid 1256.00 for the complete sure fit kit, including shipping from Vintage Air. Plus I paid an additional 50.00 for the polished on the compressor.

you have to get new brackets to mount compressor on passenger side.you shouldn't have to toss lines.mine came with only one end attached.then you cut the hose to the length you want and get the fittings for the other end crimped to fit.stepside 454 your engine compartment turned out very nice.ble burban i think what your asking with compressor and belt system would be doable.just call em they'll make you a system.that digital controller wouldn't work with my system.everything is cable activated like the stock setup.i'll post a pic of my system later today.....i gota go build a fence.

Re: Vintage air install

Thanks Boat. Im pleased with it. If you mounted the compressor on the pass. side, the line they give you coming out of the driver side of the radiator support going to the compressor from the condensor coil would have to be modified to go back over to the passenger side. John
