67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

are they any different? i know that the crossmembers are interchangeable, but are the lca's interchangeable? i bought some lower bag brackets that were said to be made for 67-87 c10's, but when i got them, they didn't line up at all on my control arms, they were short about 1". here is the ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=330264835054

I'm curious as to why you would use a plate instead of a cup?

Re: 67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

Either or, they are similar concept just to keep the bag from rubbing. I would use the plate verses the cup myself, it looks cleaner and bolts to the control arm. But thats just my opinion

hey dubdeuce80,

I'm who you bought those plates from. I'm also curious as why they didn't fit. You are the first I've run into this issue with. Whatever I can do to help just let me know.

There has been lots of talk about that subject. The plate wont let it go as low. So Ive heard. Other than that theres nothing wrong with it.

only a .25" difference from the lowest you can go with a cup without rubbing.

cool, thanks for the plates and awesome customer service. here are some pictures of them with the sway bar holes lined up. hopefully i don't have 3/4 ton lcas or something :( (yes i know they are extremely rusty, they've sat through quite a few thunderstorms, but they will be POR15'd along with new drilled/slotted rotors soon!)

this sides fine...

i'll be doing some heavy modifications to the crossmember anyways, so i'll be raising where the upper plate mounts while i'm at it, similar to the red rocker i believe it was

hmmm, somthing looks strange, but can't really tell by the angle of those pics. That indentation in the plates should be where the shock mount is. They should be positioned like this pic.

Re: 67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

can you get a pic with out the plate on your lower arms?
I also noticed jlaird has a pair of lower arms and plates for sale on ebay,
maybe you guys could work out a swap if your arms won't work.
here is a LINKY

Re: 67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

the control arms are the same from 63-87 only thing that changed are the ball joints. As for plate vs cup on our standard cool ride we use a lower cup style bracket and on our tubular arms we use a flat plate....

Not to hijack, but will these plates work with a '66?

I'm not 100% sure. I've had people with that year range purchase them, saying if they don't work, they could return them. Never heard back...

Re: 67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

Your lower arms do look slightly different, but that could just be the pictures.

I have a set of 3/4 ton control arms off an 84. When I get home I will have a look at them and see if that clears anything up.

Re: 67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

well since we never did figure out what the problem was, i decided to pick up some '69 lcas...except it kinda came with the rest of the truck

i swapped out the suspension that was in it (6 lug) for my old one. i'm gonna clean up the lca's from this '69 and use those since the plates i bought work with them, gonna be fun

Re: 67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

Whatever happened to this problem with the plates? did it ever get resolved?I got an 86 SWB and I have the same problem, plates just do not fit. I wish I would of known of this before I bought them, but it does say on ebay it will fit 67-87 LCA's?:m6: I was hoping I would get done this weekend!!!

dubdeuce80 09-11-2008 04:38 PM

Re: 67-72 vs 73-87 lower control arms

like i said in the above post, i picked up a '69, and both the upper and lowers are completely different than the ones on my '80. once i get the balljoints removed (probably sometime this weekend) i will take a side by side picture of both lowers
