Re: lift kit ?s

You will need to have both driveshafts lengthened, longer brake lines, and longer shocks, plus a more comfortable seat!

You will have to put the lift kit on first, then you measure between the transmission yoke and rear end. Ujoint to ujoint.

John is definitely right, you won't know how much you need to modify the driveshafts until the lift is on. A 4" lift usually doesn't require front driveshaft changes but when I did a 4" lift on my 69 K20, it did require changes.

I had to lengthen the front shaft, then when I installed it I had interference and had to have a double cardon joint installed and the shaft had to be shortened. Keep that in mind so you don't have to have yours done twice like I did.

You will also need to make steering modifications with a 6" lift. If you have the closed knuckle Dana 44 you wil need an adjustable drop drag link. Mine is from Skyjacker or Superlift, can't recall which. The raised steering arm that usually is used on an open knuckle Dana 44 won't work on the closed knuckle Dana 44.

Thanks Yukon

I forgot about the steering arm. I changed it out on one 4" lift and left it stock on the other. All of mine already had a cardon joint, maybe somebody changed out the driveshaft on yours.

If the axle is stock, it will be the closed knuckle Dana 44. No Dana 60 front axles were used in the 67-72 4wd's. Here is a pic of the closed knuckle portion of a 1969 Dana 44.

And here is a pic of a Dana 60 from a 1984 or 1985 1 ton. You will note it uses 3 u-bolts and on the passenger side there are two studs instead of another u-bolt.
