hood brace repair
 
I have 2 hoods for my 1950 and both have rust thru on the brace that the hinge bolts to on one side. is there a repair piece for this?

never heard of one - do a little surfing, but you will probably have to fab something up -

That area rots out because the brace is a hat section channel and traps all the dust/dirt at the lowest point. Of course it absorbs and hold moisture so this rots the brace out from the inside. It is a fairly easy fix with the hood off the truck. Remove all the rotted material, treat the inside area with a rust converter and prime/coat the heck out of it once that drys. Then weld in a replacement metal piece and grind to taste. Just watch the heat build up as it will warp the hood skin.

luckily both hoods have rot on different sides so i have a donor. it comes out very easily 3 rivites and the center conector and its out. yes it is rusted badly on the back side where it holds moisture. thanks
