Confused
Needing some opinions here. I've been re doing my dads 68 for a while now, and want it done by spring. ok heres the deal. i can get a no options 67 short bed with all the parts to finish my dads plus make it a short bed. (have to shorten my bed tho) or i can get a 71 Long bed with all the parts to finish my dads for the same money. the 71 has, power disc brakes, cargo light, cruise, air, of course 5 lug, and the kicker is it runs. i've always wanted a short bed so im kinda up in the air. any help would be great. thanks as always.

Re: Confused
Wow, that's a tough one... I can see why no one has responded.
You have a long bed 68 that you want to fix up by spring. And can get a short 67 but with no options. Now you come across a 71 that has all the goodies including the disc brakes, cruise?, ac, etc. But, you're partial to the short beds. Assuming they're both in equal shape for fixing up, I would get the 71, even though it's a long bed. It has all the amenities that you want and are hard to find in a truck these days. You can always take your time and look for a short bed later. The main thing is to get the loaded one now. |
Re: Confused
the 71 has a perfect bed on it but the cab is rusty, and it dont have a title.
|
Re: Confused
Do you have pictures of either? Prices?
My vote, without pictures is to BUY BOTH! Use the parts you need, and sell the other parts to make some cash. |
Re: Confused
300 a piece no pics right now the short bed is completly taken apart just the cab setting on frame, no rust, has all new front sheet metal. only thing missing is the motor and trans. the 71 has rust in the rockers and cab corners. and the grille and front bumper are gone. its a 350/350 set up, o and the drivers door is dented. i've always wanted a short bed but then again i really want my dads truck finally done (so does my wife)

Re: Confused
o and i cant get both i live in town no where to park both. plus the city gets grumpy. so as soon as i get the parts off i need everything else will get sent to the scrap yard. sorry to double post
|
Re: Confused
Id go with the shortbed ift easier to add all the extra options to a shortbed then shorten a longbed plus its better to get just how you wanted it in the first place
|
Re: Confused
$300 for each...Buy both, put everything into the short truck and sale the rest.

Since you said the price is $300 each do what Andy^ said. :smoke: s/t |
Re: Confused
:jdp:WOW $300 Each:jdp: I would try hard for both Make a nice short bed from the Long bed parts and you still have parts to make a complete truck and sell for $600 and your truck would be free or more to pay for them both:lol: Since you will be useing the short bed you will not need the tittle for the long bed Just transfer the vin from the door to the AC Cab..

Re: Confused
For that kind of money,I would see if a friend could store one of the trucks, until there was time to get to it.Ya gotta know somebody out on a farm ,somewhere.Good Luck-KB

Re: Confused
im thinking about just getting both and making one nice short bed.out of all three trucks. or at least by the parts i need off the 71. my cab is nice since i've replaced the cab corners and rockers. i dont want to have to do that again and i dont know if u can convert a non air dash to an air. so im really not that worried about the air and cruise. but i would like to have the 5 whole and the power disc.

Re: Confused
buy both... mt grove isnt far from where my parents place is ... you can definelty part them out... (or like me just park them in the back yard... LOL)
|
Re: Confused
the city is to picky. my GT mustang set in the back yard over the winter with out tags and i got a nasty letter in the mail saying i had 30 days or i'd get a fine. so i dont want to do the back yard thing again. thanks for all the help though

DJ
Good deals are out there. I just bought a 72 long, fleet. It is disc, air, pretty solid, and all there, for $300.Trucks are not selling and when they are ,you can get them for nothing, but a 67 shorty for $300,,I would like to find one like that close to me.I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. I'm spoiled. I live on a farm and finding a spot to put stuff is not a concern ,but I have friends in your situation and the local folks around you do not care what reason you have, they don't want vehicles sittin out in the yard.Hope you can work this out. Like I said, hope ya know somebody on a farm. Too bad you aren't in Northern Illinois ,I could find a spot for you.-KB |

Now as far as adding A/C to a non A/C dash, it can be done. Check out Vintage Air's website, and I believe that they have the templates online that you could print out to make the cuts in your non A/C dash. Back to the two trucks, you could probably come out ahead after stripping the parts you wanted and selling off the rest. Especially if the LWB has a nice bed on it. Best of luck! |
Re: Confused
if i end up with both trucks i'll probably shorten the perfect long bed to a short bed. but i really love those small back glasses. man its a hard choice. thanks everyone for your help

well i did what was suggested ended up with both trucks so im gonna have a ton of extras. brought the long bed home today its ugly but not to bad to have all those options. and hell it even runs. 350/350 set up. did see somthing i hadnt noticed before, it has 2 tanks one under the bed with a switch on the drivers floor under the seat. is this factory, the filler neck comes out of the fender well. here are some pics dont laugh i know its ugly but the bed only had one dent.
