Looking to swap 250 I6 for 350, what engine should I get?

What is the best motor for the money as far as small blocks go? I am looking at the 290hp 350 GM Crate engine which is about $2000. Also, considering going with a short block and getting a set of Edelbrock heads that way I can get a little higher compression for a little more power. Anyone recently put a small block in thiers?

This was my last project like this, it was a '69 Dart w/225 slant 6 and I put a 360 MP crate short block w/edelbrock heads, TF904 w/low gear set and 8-3/4 w/2.91 sure grip. It was my daily driver and was good for around 400hp, 15mpg highway and 13.11 @ 115mph 1/4 mile times. I don't want to make the truck a racer but do want some more power for sure.

nice dart. just recently acquired a '70 duster with the slant 6. strong little motor, although i haven't had it on the road yet. got any more pics?

as far as swaps, i haven't done one recently, but a friend of my dad's built the motor that will be going into mine. i just need to get a 700r4 so i can transplant everything at one time.

I believe the GM 350 crate engine is a good value for the money. Since you talked about Edelbrock heads you might want to go to Edelbrock and check their crate engines out, might be able to save more than gathering all the parts separately.

I bought a 5.3 with 4l60 trans pull out.It has 30,000 mi. Got it for $800.00.It will make 375 rwhp with a cam in it .spreartech will do a harness and program for about $600.00 .Great fuel mileage and reliability.

With the Gen III can I run my 3 speed manual, is the bell housing the same bolt pattern?

I hear the 409 is being brought back from the dead and recast, that would make a unique combo.

Just get a vortec 350 out of a 95-99 truck. EVERYTHING you got bolts up to it. All you need is an intake manifold made for a carb that sits on this engine in place of the fuel injection setup and your done.
