battery gauge in the instrument cluster
 
does the battery gauge in the cluster, does this gauge read volts or amps? and another question is when you turn the Ign. key on, or start mode should you see the charge light,(lamp) in the fuel gauge bottom idiot light come on?

It's a amp gauge and you want see it move much if any.

Yes it should light up for a second to tell you it's working.

Factory guage reads amps, not volts

and the light is not supposed to work on a guage equipped truck, only the brake light.
