Rear Springs
I read here that we could use the rear springs from a chevelle does anyone know what year they are from.

Re: Rear Springs
"A" body 68-72 rear springs will work including Chevelles as well as other GM cars with the "A" body.
My friend has them on his short box and they work very well. Ride is good but load capacity is limited. Jim |
Re: Rear Springs
move your hangers and shackles and run longer springs from the rear of a 2wd 88-98 chevy truck. your load capacity will be increased and you won't be using car parts on a 1/2 ton capacity truck.
upgrade? not downgrade? unless it's all about show. |
Re: Rear Springs
That sound OK too but I think we're talking about coil springs here. Is this supposed to give a drop? how much?

Re: Rear Springs
I think drop is in the 2-3" range with stock Chevelle springs, but load capacity is diminished...why not purchase drop springs? Maybe $120 for the pair new, and they've got similar load capacity as stock.

Re: Rear Springs
I agree about just buying truck lowering springs, they are cheap enough and you are not using car parts,,,just my .02

Re: Rear Springs
I read thats what cpp sends you when you order the rear drop springs for out trucks. Is this true?

Re: Rear Springs
I got drop springs for the rear and they are no where near stock loading capacity. I want to find a better drop spring or just put some air bags in the back running off of a shrader valve behind the license plate. i will be watching this thread.

Re: Rear Springs
FYI, some aftermarket companies, can't remember which, offer an HD rear drop spring option. This would likely be at or near the stock load capacity. I agree the normal drop springs are not as beefy as stock, but they're closer than Chevelles, I'm positive. Chevelle springs were not designed to have 5+ inches of range in travel, nor support and additional 1000 lbs over the rear axle without breaking anything. I would only put car springs in if you never really load anything into the bed.
