Front won't lay???

Hey guys,

I bought and installed a dropmember. I used the factory control arms with slam bags 2600 and 2 1/2 inch summit drop spindles (ground force). I went to lay it out and it won't lay all the way. I thought it would lay with the factory CA. It lays on the gas tank in the back and even when I lift the back all the way and the front all the way down- it still won't lay flat. about 1-1/2" from it . Hopefully these pictures will show what I'm talking about. I know I need to buy ART arms, or sumtin similar but can I get away with just buying the bottoms or the tops (either or)? These tires are 29" tall, and I'm going with 30" tires w/ 22's. Maybe I should start a build thread?

Looks pretty damn close to me. Is the transmission cross member holding it up? If not, looks like you are going to either modify the control arms you have so the bag sits down inside them more, or just buy new tubular ones. This is a common problem for people running the lower plates. If you flat out don't have the cash right now, modifying them will work fine until you can upgrade.

I'm assuming you are getting a fuel cell to mount in the bed.

Re: Front won't lay???

hey smashingchuck, modify in what way? you mean take off the bottom plates and put in cups? if so, how tall do they need to be in order to lay CA like royo!!!!!!YES I'm jelous.........Anyways I plan on sectioning the tanks eventually but for now they are going to have to stay there. Is there any way to raise the tanks for some clearance?..........

I would install a blazer tank in the rear or get a fuel cell made.

I can't find any pics but some people cut the middle of the control arm out, weld a large diameter (8"?) 1/4 wall piece of pipe in, and drop the bag location mounting point down by about 2" or so.

I vote for Blazer tank. Fuel cells just don't look right in a street truck.

Something has to be holding you up there! Looks good though!

Re: Front won't lay???

The factory gas tanks sit just below the frame, and also the driver's side lower frame rail has a "kink" in it where the catalytic converter used to be. Also, with the factory lowers, bag plate, and SlamBag it will keep you just off the ground. Make sure it's not the tanks and frame on the driver's side first. If those aren't the issue, swap the Slambag for a Firestone it will get you that extra inch.

hey thanks guys, I wish I could get that blazer tank but that area is now home to an 8 gallon air tank and valves I will have to get a pic of it as soon as I can find it. Oh yeah what about that "kink", how would you go about straightening that out? Hey nate what about those CA in my earlier question.......

Rosebud tip and a big crescent wrench should do it.

There are a few ways to accomplish what you're looking to do.

1. Purchase 3" drop spindles and go with a tubular lower arm from ART, KP... or wait a little bit longer for mine to come out.

2. Modify the factory lower arms and set the bag approx. .75" lower in the arm.

3. I am pretty sure a firestone bag will do the trick... it compresses more than a Slam and will allow more drop.

Re: Front won't lay???

I would recess the bag into the lower arm. It's probably the most cost effective route at this point.

Firestone and Contitech bags do compress a good bit further than Slams do. They need to be limited in drop though with a bump stop. Slams have an internal bump stop, the rest don't. The slams compress to about 3", and the Contitechs are recommended to be limited to compressing 2.75".

Re: Front won't lay???

I "cupped" my LCAs & wont do it again

There is someone on here that welded a plate to the bottom of there LCAs & then cut the center out around the bag, I think this is a better way of modding the LCAs if you plan to lay out

The reason I dont like "Cupping" the LCAs is because when you dump the cups hit the ground first & thats not a good thing

Here are some pics of mine

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture303.jpg

And it will do this too (I have 28" tall tires on it)

Heres the only pic I could find of the plates I was talking about
