American Autowire Update wire harness kits finally here!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Currently these only fit 69-72 trucks, Blazers, Suburbans. Will also work with GMC's as well. Just released this week and should start shipping week of Feb 23. These list for $539, we will be selling them for $485, over $50 off list! I have already listed these in our store and we are ready to take orders for them. Here is a run down of their features:

1. Replacement headlight switch with internal 30amp circuit breaker included. Retention collar nut, adjustable length shaft, and custom knob are also included.

2. Standard turn signal flasher, hazard flasher mounted on fuse panel, and horn relay mounted on harness.

3. Fuse box designed to fit in original location. All required hardware supplied. New ATO fuse panel allows for easy fuse and circuit breaker accessibility. Harness is laid out and formed to allow for nearly all after market accessories such as; gauge packages, wiper systems, heat and air conditioning systems, etc.

4. Original switch connector bodies! (Exclusive to American Autowire)

5. Steering column connectors will plug directly into most after market
steering columns as well as 1969-72 GM columns, which utilize stock GM turn signal switches.

6. Along with wiring for your original dome/interior lighting we have included separate under dash light sockets.

7. Instrument Cluster wiring is designed with a “cluster harness disconnect” system for easy service and assembly. All original terminals, connectors (exclusively from American Autowire), and light sockets are also supplied for original cluster gauges. However, the best aspect of the disconnect system is that any gauge cluster package can be easily and neatly wired in. This includes AUTOMETER, CLASSIC INSTRUMENTS, DAKOTA DIGITAL, STEWART WARNER, and VDO just to name a few.

8. Rear body harness assembly is designed to plug into the main harness in the original location. Flexibility in harness design allows for original or custom routing. EXCLUSIVE! Rear body wiring includes backup light lead wires with rubber connectors, stop and tail light lead wires with correct light sockets and boot / tube assemblies for Fleetside trucks, or correct connections and terminals to mate with the tail lamp assemblies for Stepside trucks, license plate connection wire, side marker lead and ground wires with lamp sockets, and fuel tank sender wire and connection.

9. New floor dimmer switch is provided with extra long mounting screws for ease of installation. Wire length and connection accommodate original floor mount dimmer switch.

10. EXCLUSIVE! GM bulkhead connectors for the engine and front light wiring are included and ready for easy installation. Original or custom routing of the new harness is no problem!

11. Engine wiring includes connectors for original points type as well as H.E.I. distributors. Power and tach connectors supplied for GM H.E.I. distributors. Alternator connectors are supplied for GM “SI” series internally regulated alternators. GM “CS” series alternator adapter is available separately.

12. Front lighting includes extra long leads for special routing when custom under hood appearance is desired. All headlight, park light and directional light connectors and terminals are provided, as well as a switched trigger wire for electric fan relay (usually recommended with AC).

Youll find that with our inclusion of all the original style light sockets, connectors, terminals, etc. packed into every aspect of this harness, it makes it the most complete system of its type in the industry!

They replace the wiring 100% with the exception if you have stock A/C, you will still need an A/C harness

That should have been your problem before the release of this kit. No other kit can compare, period.

What's the difference between a 69-72 harness and a 67/68? I was under the impression they were the same.

just a couple of questions, and I will buy this kit. Are they set up to be added to later (if I wanted to do p/w, door poppers, bags, etc.)? Do they have detailed instructions and tech support (I am basically electrically weetarded, I'll probably need a lot of help throughout the install)?
Thanks!

I'm interested too but not sure I'm up for the task.

Any installation instructions to take a look at?

How long for a non pro to install? (I'm better electrical than mechanical)

How long/much would you think to have shop do it for me?

Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this kit is supposed to be almost plug and play. That is the point of their "Update" kits. Using factory plugs while adding modern conveniences that weren't available at the time.

And AAW is known to have excellent customer service.

Main difference is the column plug is different. I need to call and find out any other differences there may be and why they could not be used in a 67-8

yes, yes, and yes. There is an accessory plug in that allows for modern features such as p/w, p/l, aftermarket dash, efi. etc. Instructions are thorough, and if you need help, AAW supports all their customers no matter who you buy their product from.

I can probably get you a set. Figure 2 good weekends for you to do it yourself. Shop install will greatly vary with how much disassembly or assembly they have to do. A good shop that only has to do the wiring in a truck, no extras should not take more than a couple days. Cost will vary upon where you live.

The Factory Fit series is plug and play, but that is original wiringsolution. The kits come without the ends terminated and extra long wires for custom routing if you desire. Once you have routed the wires, just crimp the ends and plug it in. What comes with the AAW kits no other kit has is all the factory end connectors for the tail lights, side marker lights, correct pass through grommets, etc. You get none of that with all other kits and you have to reuse old connectors that are vehicle specific. Not only that you get new headlight switch, dimmer switch, and ignition switch. Only wiring reused is the column wiring. If you have factory A/C you will need to reuse the factory A/C harness or purchase a new one. The kits includes the power feed for the a/c harness, but really adapts better to aftermarket a/c systems. Only other thing I know not included in the kit is door jamb switches which I wish they would add.

I'm going to buy this kit once I get paint...

Also wondered why 67/68 weren't included.. Didn't the fuse box change oreintaiton (horizontal vs vertical) and no side marker lights needed.

This is the best setup i've seen for the price.

What would you charge to install?

Side marker lights were available in 68, and base 69 did not have them. AAW told me the 67-8 handbrake interfered with the dash harness somehow. Not sure of that one. I have a 68 and 69 at home so I am going to research that further.

$50/hr, roughly 2 days. If you drove up and helped take it apart and put it back together would reduce costs.
