Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
One problem I have: going over 30 m/h there is a 'humm' in the lower part of the car. With small vibrations.
Putting transmission into neutral still keeps the vibrations. Sometimes the humm just disappears to return a little later. Any ideas? |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
pretty pretty pretty trrruck...
seats are an interesting choice.... |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
i woudl say "tires" for your humming noise..
just my .02 cents |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
rotate tires and try again,if that doesn't move the vibration, pull the driveshaft and look at the u joints
|
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
I don't think it's the tires.
I mounted new tires and rims this saturday. The humm was even there with the old tires. Strange is that the humm is not there all the time. Even if it starts, it sometimes disappears. Grinch4om: the sound seems to come from the driverside. |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
Maybe a wheel bearing. Take the truck for a drive, when you get home, see if the wheel feels warm...or warmer than the passenger side. That is often a indicator the bearing is bad.
Nice looking truck by the way. |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
sweet.two tone shorty.i like it.getcha a chrome rear sport bumper when you can.i think it would really help the look.sounds like a u joint or a bearing, maybe a brake hanging.jack it up and spin it.and just feel and listen, you can learn alot.

Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
No difference in temperature after a 10 mile ride.
I'll check the U joint, but wouldn't the noise be more centered? |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
Humming or harmonics at speed are usually u-joints or bent/unbalanced drivelines.
Bad wheel bearings usually translate into more of a roar/whine sound. If it's a two-piece driveline it's possible someone replaced one section at some time in the past, rendering it mismatched and out of balance. |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
Could it be the pinion angle perhaps? Nice truck btw, seats look good in there.

Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
Nice truck you got there. As was said wheel bearing or u joints would be my first guess
|
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
Put the truck on heavy duty jack stands or a lift if possible. Have someone put the truck in gear and accelerate to desired speed and listen. It sounds like a driveline virbration. Driveshaft or rearend.

Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
This morning, driving 6-7miles to work: no humm the first 6 miles, driving 30 and 50 m/h. Then suddenly decelerating a bit on the engine and the humm started again, but only for a few seconds.
Unfortunately I won't have time to check this the first two weeks. Thanks for the replies. |
Re: My 1979 C10 Cheyenne
Now that sounds more like a pinion bearing or a loose pinion nut...
