Has anyone ever hear of a 3/4 ton 1963 dually??? The frame vin and cab vin match. Thanks to everyone who helped me find that.... The rear end and every thing appears to be original, but I have never seen a dually on a 3/4ton....

Does it have offset wheels front and rear?

I have seen tons of 3/4 tons with 1 ton rearend retrofitted.
Standard wheels front and offset rears.

also JC Whitney used to sell adaptors to add standard offset duals.
Those are scary IMHO

From what I could see in your pics, yes it is an Eaton HO52 or 72

By offset do you mean does it use the same wheel? If so yes it is the same wheel just faced together

Re: 3/4Ton Dually????

If there are 10 bolts in the cover flange, it is the HO 72 differential. The question about the wheels is are the same wheels used front and rear? The wheels for the 3/4 tone have a shallower setback. If the wheels are no the same, you have a truck that someone swapped the differential on.

While the dual wheels were not an option for the 3/4 ton, it is possible that either the dealer made the swap or the dealer had enough clout to have the factory put on the duals.

Since there are no records that have survived, this is one mystery that will remain unsolved.

Yes they are the same exact wheel. Thanks for all the information!! At least now I know what I have so I can start building her back up. How are those HO 72 differentials???

Would a 1 ton have trailing arm/coils?

CRS is kicking in. ;)

Re: 3/4Ton Dually????

The HO 52/72 is a good, reliable full-floater differential. They are not bulletproof by any means. Biggest problem is gearing. Not many selections. Available are 4.10, 4.56, and 5.14 (or so). So if you want better gears swapping to a 14 bolt is needed. The 10 bolt was dropped in 1972.

Redline, Yes your truck is original. Chevy did offer a dual wheel option on C20 3/4 ton chassis cabs and stake models. Your vin should start C2503 for chassis cab or C2509 for stake bed.No mystery Fred. The 4.57 can be swapped out with a 4.10 from a pre 72 C 20, then I would go with a set of pre 1970 8-19.5 duals which can be found. This will be good for 65 mph with no welding or fabricating and still be period orginal.
