Got 2 Questions
First question is about the hump in the floor on a 65. Is there a low & high hump. If so what's the difference? Is one for Automatic and the other for stick shift? I'm using a 700R4 would the low hump work?
Second one is what under bed gas tank do you guys recommend? I just saw that LMC has a 21 gallon kit for $199.00. Or would you look for a used tank, and what would you use? |

Yes there is a low and high hump, although I am not sure exactly what trucks they came on. My '60 GMC has a high hump even though it is 2wd and has a 3-speed on the tree. I figured the high humps normally came on trucks with the SM-420 or 4 -wheel drive...
Anybody else know for sure? |

I'm not sure what dictated low or high hump. My '66 Burb came originally with a powerglide, but now has a TH400. Even though it is moved ahead a little, I think there would still be room in the stock location with a low hump.
The '69-'72 Blazer tank kits are a pretty good deal. But since your rear frame is a '73, you should be able to use a '73 and up Blazer tank, or even a '73 and up Suburban tank. |

The humps are associated with the type of transmission the vehicle was outfitted with. The high humps were in floor shift and all 4x4 models while the low humps were in 2wd column shift models.

As stated above the low hump came on the column shift trucks, ie automatics and three speed on the column and the high humps came on the 4-speed floor shift (SM420 & SM465) transmissions and all 4x4 trucks, to accommodate the transfer case shifter.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure when I put the engine & trans in it will fit. I was thinking the low hump was for stick shift, and the 700r4 wouldn't fit. Thanks for answering my question about the hump.

Strodder, didn't you "lower" the cab when you mounted it to the 73 frame? If you did there "might" be some clearence issues with the trans tunnel. Keep that in mind when you go to put in the motor/trans set up.

the gas tank question is kinda a loaded one.....
what do you want in a tank? how much do you want to spend? you can get a full custom tank for $350-$500, or as Captain mentioned a '73-'91 blazer or burb tank should go in fairly easy. That LMC tank should work, but might hang kinda low all kinda depends on what you want to accomplish;) |

I just looked up the 73 gas tank. It's a 25 gallon. If I make up the kit it will only cost $124.00 with the tank, sender & straps. I wonder if the 25 gallon tank will sit even lower that the 21 gallon one.

I went to the local Pick A Part today. I found a 77 Blazer that still had a gas tank in it. (They usually take the tanks out, and crush them) They wanted $49.00 for it. I'll go back tomorrow to get it. After I went home to get my tools it looked like it was going to rain, and it did. That's why I'm going back tomorrow. It also had the exact front 60/40 red front seat from a newer year. They want only $39.00 for the seat. It's in perfect shape. I'll post picts on my build thread. Hey guys, thanks for all your help
