idiot lights to gauges

I have a nice bezel with gauges. I want to put it in my truck. Is there any way I can run it with out changing my whole harness. If not and I plug it in will my gas guage at least work

your fuel guage will burn up if you just go out and plug it in.
GMC Paul has a chart on his site, shows what wires to trim and cross to make it work.

Great info, I plan on doing that swap as well and didn't know it would burn up the fuel gauge if not properly installed, Thanks

I am excited it can be done. I wanted a gauge dash pretty bad.

As i've said in teh past... if you just slap it in, you'll get funny working inst lights, the turn signals will control a high beam and an inst light if I remember right, and the fuel guage will spin around and then go out in a puff of smoke.
Ask my old friend, he watched mine do this and he was literally laying in the dirt holdin his belly he was laughing so hard.
I on the other hand, wanted to cry.
Alcohol may have been involved.

Very small flat head screw driver and just take one wire plug out at a time and switch them all around. ( As per GMC pauls wire chart)

You will need a new oil sensor and steel line for the oil gauge to work.
I think the temp sensor is different too. (no chance to try mine out yet)

A hose for the vacum line connected to the bottom of the carb

Run a wire to the Dizzy for the tach. And a + - wire to power the tach.
And you have to run wires for the Amp gauge to the Alt and Batt.
Good idea to check all the bulbs too before you put it in.
Be carefull around the plug when putting in and out of the truck.

Good weekend project. Get a case of beer too.

It is a pretty easy mod. This is how I did my burb: I ran 2 new wires out to the bat and alt. for the ammeter, and just used a small screwdriver to swap all the others around. You'll want to cut and connect together the two green temp wires where they go to the ignition switch, otherwise your temp gauge will peg at hot every time you start the truck.
