Anyone running bed mounted batteries or fuel cell?
Hey guys I was wanting to throw some weight to the back of my truck to maybe even it out a little more.
I'm thinking of mounting duel batteries under my bed as close to the tailgate as I can get. Has anyone else done a similar modification like this? Also I would like to remove the two side tanks and put in a few cell. However I dont want to cut a whole in my bed. I would like to be able to use the original gas doors on each side of the bed so when I pull up to a gas station it doesn't matter what side I'm on. Well... Anyone got any advice before I get started...? |

If your wanting more traction, get you some intubes cut them in half, and fill with sand. You can take them out if you need to haul something. Just a thought.

I would look up forum member Fuel Cell Guy and have him build what you want-LINK www.aluminumfuelcell.com

Re: Anyone running bed mounted batteries or fuel cell?
In my younger years i had a 80 elcamino with a 305 from a monte carlo and a 3 speed manual tranny! I thought it was a race car so i had a 15 gallon harwood fuel cell and 1 battery mounted in the bed! It was a pain I burned through my positive battery cable on my headers. It was an easy fix after I had it towed home but when it happened on a dark rainy night it wasnt so easy to diagnose! Thats a good idea using your fuel doors bacause climbing in the bed everytime you need to fuel up is not fun either. If I only knew half of what I do now! Good luck I know this isnt too much help just thought I would share my story with you remember to route that power wire away from problems!

Re: Anyone running bed mounted batteries or fuel cell?
A Blazer tank and relocated fuel door has been done. That way your box is still usable. I wouldn't put the batteries behind the axle. Water or road debries could get thrown up there and cause corrsion or worse. I would put them in front of the axle. You would still be moving weight towards the rear and off the front end.

my truck has a battery mounted inside the bed, in front of the driver side wheel tunnel, I would go with fuel cell or blazer tank in between the rear frame rails, and mount the filler behind the license plate, like mentioned
