Cab glass removal
Well, the cab is getting close to coming off. I'm wondering about the windsheild and back glass (solid). How easy are these peices to remove and does it require the special tool to remove them? If I wanted to ensure that the glass doesn't get broken, should I just pay a company to come take them out?
On the windsheild, the passenger corner is fogged up and I'm wondering if this can be polished out or if I'm going to need to buy a new windshield anyway. TIA Mike |
Re: Cab glass removal
the fog is bad. the film between the 2 layers of glass is going bad and there is no way to fix it.
as for removal I would plan on replacing the rubber as it is probably shrunk and needs replacement anyway. that way glass removal is easy, just use a sharp utility knife. |
Re: Cab glass removal
The fogging is actually the plastic membrane between the two layers is the part that fogs from age/sun. You can't polish it out. You will have to replace the whole thing.
As for getting out the glass, if (and recommended) you are replacing the seals, cut the seal from the inside and push out. Have a helper. As for putting them back in, the rear is not too hard using the rope method. As for the front, based on how many problem even pros have had with cracking, you might want to hire them and buy the glass from them. Then they are responsible if they break it during installation. Good luck. |

Okay, add one more item to the budget

Re: Cab glass removal
Yeah just cut out. Buy a good quality seal to. Not the crap Counterparts sell and alot of vendors. One starts with a Large L. They sell crap thats is too hard to install. Find someone who sells Precision Brand and save some time and money.I can give you all the returned rubbers we used to sell before we sold Precision for free

I work at a dealer and we have a few different glass companies that come out. Would they carry Precision you think? I guess I have some footwork to do. Also,How do you get your thumbnail picture in your profile on the left? I have it in my profile when you click on my name but not visible in the threads like many others. Thanks AJ |

I would just ask the glass guys you deal with. Thats how we found out about Precision cause they got mad at us at Binswangers glass for always bringing in crappy rubber. So we use what they use and now we sell their rubber only. The picture is your avatar and you can down load in the user cp Mike |
Re: Cab glass removal
windshield comes out easily.. take off the stainless. then take a box cutter and cut the rubber. then the glass should come out..
