with any drop spindle from 60-70 you MUST run disc brakes on that spindle....sorry

I'm not 100% sure what your question is pretaining to...

If you are asking if you could remove the 71-72 front suspension parts (spindles, disc brakes,...) and install them on your '68 and then have disc brakes... then yes you can do that.

If you are asking if you can swap the arms and still keep the drop you once had and run drums... I don't believe you can as the spindles are setup differently.

You can always contact ECE, CPP, or a board supporting vendor and pick up a disc brake conversion kit from one of them.

let me clarify. I want disc with aftermarket drop. Most of the disc spindles wont work with 67-68 drum A arms. I thought the ball joints and tie rod ends were different. I guess you have answered my question anyway. As long as the 71-72 A arms will go on my '68....and I can then buy the spindles I will need with a drop.....then that's what I wanted to know. Thanks!

on my 68....


i had a 72 donor truck

i took the spindles rotors calipers soft lines pitmanarm to idler arm and everything inbetween and put it on my 68

what i put on that wanst used

new hardlines
balljoints
tierod ends
greasesweattears lol

but in the end discs are worth it....


i THINK you can buy drop spindles for your 68 that accept tierod ends and balljoints you already have and all you gotta do is mount a rotor and the rest of your brake components..

check out gmc paul. they sell a 63-70 drop spindle that will use the original ball joint etc. , but you have to switch to the disck brake upgrade.

IIRC, I looked at the LMC catalog and the upper and lower control arms were the same part # for 67-72, just the balljoints/tie rods etc. are different

we did the complete front xmember swap and rear swap from a '72 to my son's '67, if you go this route get everything suspension/brake related and it will save you alot of time.

When I did my disc brake conversion on my '69 C10 I bought drop spindles that allowed me to retain my factory '69 upper/lower ball joints and tie rod ends. Figured that alone saved me $150+ the hassle of changing ball joints.

I upgraded to disc brakes on my 67. Got the kit from Classic performance Parts. Their kit uses stock arms, steering etc....

All stock control arms,tie rod ends and ball joints on my 68 with 2 1/2 dropped spindles.Any BB vendor will probably have the kit.You will need to make sure your wheels are compatable with the disc.

my question is , i have a donor 72 1/2 ton, if i do a complete xmember swap with everything still intact, it should bolt right up to my 68?? do i have any other concerns i should be worried about?? i have a 72 power brake setup, M/C, proportioning valve,. i ve read that i might need to drill new holes in the 68 frame?

I have stock 15x8 Corvette rallys up front with a stock 4" backspacing. I'm thinking those should clear since the corvette came with disc and I'm not planning on running Wilwood with 19" rotors! lol

Sound accurate?

Sounds right.I'm not 100% sure though.I am running the 73^ truck ralleys.If they are a 15" and were factory over disc's than I would think they would clear but then what do i know.

BTW- You can use the same set up from 73-87 trucks, Burbs as well.
