WTB three speed cross member
Looking for a three speed cross member. Is this the same as the auto cross member? Would like to see a picture of the three speed cross member so I know what I am looking for.
Thanks Don Brace MN |

From what I know the Auto trans is the only trans that needs a cross member. The Manual trans dosent. I may be wrong. Hope that helps. Brian. |
Re: WTB three speed cross member
Don,
The picture in Prathbun's post is a good representation of what you are looking for.. The manual trans mount is technically a crossmember that is riveted to the frame. One thing you need to look out for is Chevrolet used two different versions, (not sure about GMC's) a 6 cylinder one and a V8 one,, they look almost identical unless side by side.. the V8 one sits farther forward than the 6 cylinder one.. Sorry I can not help with any pics.. |

Thanks for the information. I am going to the IOLA Wi swap meet today and will look for one. Looks like the one in Prathbun's photo mounts under the bell housing. Is there one that goes under the trans mission? Thanks Don Brace MN |

Are the two you have the same or are they different from one another? I am off to IOLA WI car swap meet and will get back to you on Saturday. My guess is the only difference between the six and eight cross member is the mounting holes which is no big deal. I looked under my truck and there are two sets of holes to mount the cross member. Thanks Don |

Re: WTB three speed cross member
Currently I have an automatic crosss member under my 3 speed overdrive and none under the bell housing. I have lots of clutch chatter and think that not having the member under the bell housing maybe part of the problem.
Thanks for the replies. Don MN |

Re: WTB three speed cross member
Don..
from the factory all the trucks used one under the belhousing.. GM cars used one under the trans, if you have the surface on the tailshaft of your trans for a mount you can use the stock truck automatic crossmember. Quote:

Re: WTB three speed cross member
oops, replied to your original post before I saw this one..
If you have alot of clutch chatter it is more than likely for some other reason than the rear mounted crossmember... probably either a warped flywheel, bad clutch disc.. pilot bearing worn out.. bad input bearing in the trans etc.. Quote:

Re: WTB three speed cross member
I'll check on the clutch and the pilot bearing and let you know.
Thanks Don |
Re: WTB three speed cross member

I am still looking for the three speed cross member and the inner passenger side rear bumper bracket. Also trying to figure out why my power steering pump is so close to the alternator bracket that I cannot get the P/S cap off. Don |
