One Piece Drive Shaft what options?

I bought a ECE drop trailing arm crossmember from a member. what is my best option to converting to a one piece drive shaft. my truck that i'm building is a 70 swb with 71 running gear and will be bagged. i'll most likely be using a 350 or 700r4. thanks

Re: One Piece Drive Shaft what options?

If your 350 is mounted in the front frame holes on proper small block mount stands and you run a 700 R4, you can get a driveshaft out of an 88-98 regular cab Short bed V8 automatic truck.

I've done this twice myself. Only caveat is that you will need a conversion u joint on the rear since the early model 12 bolt rearend you have uses a larger series of u joint than the later truck did. The conversion u joint is available at any O Reilly or Autozone store.

Being that you are going with bags, you are better off keeping the 2 piece shaft. With a single shaft anf adjustable suspention, you are very likely to have the shaft hitting the crossmember.

I am running a 700R4 on my 68 swb. I took a 72 longbed one piece shaft and the correct yoke for the 700R4 and had a driveshaft shop shorten the saft and istall the yolk. The stock rear joint fit the rearend perfect.

I had a one piece built by a local driveline place new joints and tranny yoke for $225.00 zero vibration it has been there for almost a year..
