67-72 to S10 swap?
Anybody here done or heard of anyone doing a 67-72 cab swap onto a mid 80s longbed S10 frame?
I do appreciate people replying but, Please don't do like the people below did and comment on why it shouldn't be done. I'm just looking for info on the swap, you can PM me with any info you have.. |

I doubt you will ever see that.What would you expect to gain? A lower payload? The trailing arm suspension on 67-72's are great, plenty of aftermarket support. Wy would you put a much weaker, lighter payload under a full size?

I would think the S10 frame would be too narrow.

I've seen some of the swaps the guys with mid 50's trucks have done and some of the look pretty good.
To answer the above questions: Yes the frame is narrow. The 50's guys have been using wheels adapters to get the wheels out farther. I'm not worried about payload. In the 20+ years I've had the pickup, the heaviest thing I put in the back was a new washer from Sears. My old 3/4 ton Chevy van and trailer is used for any thing bigger than that. I'm thinking on the lines of my cab and a small wooden stake-bed on the back; mounted on a mid 80's long bed S10 frame. It won't be a show truck; I'm not into that type of stuff. You already have or could have those with bolt on parts, if you want a 4 cyl engine for mileage, I would look for a Nova strait four, or something along that line? no power, but neither would a 2.8 V-6 under a full size cab. The frame is not the heavy part the cab is. |

Man I to agree with not trying the swap. because unless your real energetic I see a project that doesn't get finished. If your wanting economy, Is your truck a 6 or 8 cylinder. If 8 find a good 250 straight six, and find a higher geared diff.
friend of mine is driving a 56 F100 stock 6 cylinder, 3spd trans, But he put in a 9 inch with 3:00 gears. that thing is getting close to 30 mpg's. It is sluggish on take off, but it does good when your a flying. |

Second gen frames are used frequently under 55-57 Chevy's. PM me an e-mail address. I have detailed frame information for the Gen II S-10s.

What is the weight difference of a 55-57 CAR vs a 67-72 truck?
Frames put under tri-fives are being ued even in prostock racing. |
