53 gmc cab

I am looking at building a cart to put my cab on after I remove it from the old chassis. Does any one know what the appox weight would be for the cab off of a 53 GMC 9430?

About what two stout guys or 4 normal guys can lift? I would guess 300#with out doors, add 100# for the doors.

well thats not too bad. I thought it may be like 1000lbs. I saw an engine stand that I was going to use as a cart.

My brother and I lifted our 54 cab off the frame, onto a trailer, delivered to the sandblaster, and put it back on the frame by ourselves. Just took two landscape timbers and ran them thru the door openings. Put one end on each shoulder and stand up straight. Then carry them wherever you want them. This was a stripped cab; no glass, no doors, no wiring, etc.

I saw a thread on here where a guy built a dolly out of 2x4s and looks like it worked quite well... I'll see if I can find it.

i used 2 furniture rollers i got from harbor freight for 20 bucks each. 3 work the best. 1 at the rear and 2 under the a pillars... do it cheep you probably won't need the cart as much as the furniture rollers ...

Look at my thread. We built one out of 2x4's...it works really good. I think I have a couple of pictures of it on there with the cab sitting on it.

mattohc, i built mine out of 2x6's, 6x6 for the corners/legs and a sheet of plywood. Its a little wide. If I had to do over again I would cut the width down to 40 inches. Mine is very stout!!! 3 inch casters allow me to roll around really really easy. I have about 60 bucks total in mine.
