Engine Bay Paint

What do you members recommend as a good economical engine bay paint? I am going to start stripping the front clip of my 82' in preparation of putting on some " new to me " sheet metal.

I am planning on using just some semi-flat, or satin black Ace Rust Stop paint, or Krylon.

If you can find it locally Barnes distribution makes the best spray bombs ever (mho) it's a high solids paint.

i just use an engine paint, i clean everything with a red scotch brite and water with a little soap, cleans and sands so the paint will stick, then just paint, has always worked well for me

I've always been happy with underhood paints from Eastwood.

Re: Engine Bay Paint

Make sure what ever brand you use is a satin, NOT flat. Flat will show streaks, runs, and eventaully stains. Satin will look nice for a long time if applied smoothly.

I found Zero Rust while searching for POR-15. Zero Rust is better than POR-15. Zero Rust is more of a paint than POR-15. I like it! I'm using it on all the frame. I'll soon do the rear and bed underside. I'll post pictures. I'm using a regular air paint gun.

a friend of mine has his front end disassembled. he painted his inner fenders base coat/clearcoat black, and i don't think it can get any better.I like rustoleum paint because of the durabilty. But for gloss, his looks friggin sweet.

POR 15 makes great engine bay paints! We just used some on a 71 challenger we are restoring @ my work. The hemi orange we used was a spot on match.
