and i am not talking about teeth here, hehe.i have a 69 and a 70 chevy trucks. what is the best way you found to bring the shine back on the metal part? also how do you remove small scratches? thanks in advance.

I use Autosol or Simichrome from Eastwood. Better than anything Butt Boys has.

i used turtle wax aluminum polish, it says dont use on chrome, but it works better than chrome polish. its also new from lmc.

you'll have o remove the clear coat/clear anodizing off the grill before you can make anything shine.

I used oven cleaner to get the old coating off, then used alum. polish, its shiny!!!

How long do you leave the oven cleaner on, and do you think you could tape off the paint and do it while it's on the truck.

I would not let pven cleaner get close to anything you did not want it on. that stuff is very very strong...... eats the finish off anything.

He's correct....I use 'Very Fine" Steel Wool....and then buff it out!

Doing all of the above will just be an on going battle of polishing, since the parts are aluminum and will oxidize and turn dull after a short period.

You will need to have it re anodized.

I did this with the rear sections of my side trim for my burb, which nobody reproduces yet.

My stuff was nasty from years of dents, scratches, and even a portion that had a rip. These guys fixed it all for me, and when I got it back the stuff looked OEM new. The only thing they didn't do was paint the black stripe, but from their website it looks like they may be doing that now. Since when I did my business with them, they were just getting their shop started.

I got something called Duragloss 870 aluminum polish from NAPA for about $10. I works real well although it's really for aluminum wheels. I'm not saying it's the best but I like the results.

I had that same question going through my mind. I used a chrome cleaner from Eagle to clean the oxidation off my aluminum wheels. (be advised that the warning said "do not use on aluminum") and they shine like you wouldn't believe. I was seriously considering using it on my grill. My grill is in perfect shape but it's just "milky". Justifying a new outer grill for $500-$800 is hard to come to terms with for a daily driver/hobby. I was wondering if I could use this cleaner then spray a clear coat to seal it? Would this get the desired effect? Any ideas? Cnut

A simple way to freshen up the old grill shell is to powdercoat in "near chrome" color. You have to remove the grill from the truck and the inner plastic, but you can blast and coat the grill shell with the end brackets still attached.

BIGGUY, we have wet sanded this kind of stuff at the shop with 1500 grit to remove the scratches and then polished turned out good, come see me sometime.
