A little Buick help?
 

I spent last weekend at the races and now i am seriously motivated to get the lark going. A little background. It's a 1967 buick skylark. It had a SB 300. I kept all of the SB braketery to use on the 455 I dumped in it. I have been working fairly hard to complete the cooling system and replace all of the water and vacuum hoses. Two snags so far. The fan shroud will not work nor will a smaller fan. The center point of the water pumps between the BB & SB are different. I decided on no shroud for now and a electric fan in the future. Snag #2 is the power steering pump pulley. It lines up with the opposing alternator groove. I felt smart for a moment and flipped the pulley. It's just as far off the other way. After some staring I concluded that if I could find a pulley 90 degrees to the shank I could make it work. In other works a flat pulley would work. It's a keyed shank. Any ideas? What vehicle should I focus on at the junk yard?

Wish I could help. It's the little snags like that that can be such a PITA. Building motor mounts; no problem. Modifying a firewall; piece of cake. Mixing and matching pulleys, belts, fans, shrouds, linkage; a major headache! Good luck and let us know what you figure out.

The thought crossed my mind to shim out either the pump or the alternator. I don't want it rigged though. I think I'll run out and visit a wrecking yard or two. A succesful hunt could be fun too.

Find a 67- 69 'Lark with a 400 and rob all the stuff from it, including the fan shroud- OR...

67- 69 Electra/ Wildcat 430 stuff should fit too, but not the shroud IIRC.

I contemplate things too much. I found the PS pump brackets for about $65.00 plus shipping. I know it will align with the correct pulley which is the inner most groove towards the block. I have not decided to buy them yet. A pulley is much cheaper, im not sure if rpms on the PS pump make a difference? I may leave that until the end. It's not crucial to wiring and running the engine. I need to get the transmission back up in there. Then we can get together and do some wiring?
