Re: ac

you need A/C tools for this.
I'll move this so someone will see it. It was posted on the electrical board.

Re: ac

you need a vac pump that can draw the system down to 29 inches to remove all traces of moisture.

You can buy a 2-stage R-12 and R-134 vacuum pump from Harbor Freight for $150.

Re: ac

Yes, R-134 and R-12 use different types of oil. If you have never done this before, I would recommend you go to an A/C shop or do more research before you attempt to do this. I am guessing that you will be using R-134 since you can no longer buy R-12.

I dont know about california but in texas you can buy R12 with a refrigerant handling license (a multible choice test) R12 is a superior refrigerant. nothing works like it in a R12 system. You will need a/c gauges a vacuum pump. mineral oil for R12 synthetic pag oil for 134A. if using 134A in a r12 system put 10% less refrigerant.

Before you put that new pump on,you should flush the system to remove any debris and old dirty oil.
Could save you some money!
I can still buy R-12 here.I'm certified also.
Mike.
