pictures of 60-66 on a 73-87 4x4 frame ?
 

I picked up a 77 k20 yesterday and I am planning on putting my 1965 c20 on that frame. Does any one have picture or a build thread of a 60-66 on a 73-87 4x4 frame ?

It won't be much different than putting it on a 2wd frame.....you'll have to build all new body mounts on the frame. You'll end up with a 3" or so body lift when done....BTDT. The other option is to channel the body down over the frame. Either way it's a bit of work.

i'll get some good pics of it tomorrow, but it's not a terrible swap. the frame is already a z so you don't need to do much as far as mounts, but you will need to move them from the 73+ body location which leaves the frame horn extending forward of the front clip. you'll need to mod the front of the frame back and line up with the rad support. here's a pic that does hardly any good, but my wife thought it was hilarious that i was having to fix my starter in a parking lot in the rain (it wouldn't even jump with a quarter between the starter posts, but then again, i was with my wife....rather do a 20 minute starter replace than a 2 hour fight lol)

Man! some of the sh!t people do......that right there is a hack job. It definitely should be done better than that. I don't really have any pics of the one I did 16 or 17 years ago. sixfour4x4 should be able to shed some light on how it should be done.

Not sure if it will help but on my other truck (4WD) a common low buck trick it to use hockey pucks for a body lift.

They would fill the gap in photo #2.

Thanks for the tips everyone. The 77 chevy I bought has about a 4 inch body lift, so I am hoping to use the body lift off of it to make mine sit right. I got the truck for $250 and it also has a 4" suspension lift. So I am hoping to make things work with out spending a ton of money.

I've changed my plans on this truck so many times.. I am on my third motor and transmission & bed and It hasn't even seen pavement yet ! I want to get this truck painted before it gets too cold here in utah. I miss the CA weather.

Hey did you need to move all the cab mounts or just the back ones? I've heard you can use the front and just move the back is this true ? Thanks !

sorry for forgetting about this thread. what you ought to do is use the back 2 sets for your cab as is, then fabricate new bodymount/spring hangers for the front and move it forward several inches to bring the shackle off of the frame. you can just weld in a steel plate to offset the bodymount from the spring hanger so everything still lines up fine, but alleviates the shackle from riding on t he frame. you'll be left with the frame horn sitting well in front of your bumper, chop it off:metal:

Thanks for your help. So you are saying that the cab will bolt up to the frame using the existing cab mounts ?

What is the best way to mount the cab with out moving the suspension ? I do not want to move the shackles because I have a stupid state safety inpection and they frown on custom welding for suspension parts or major frame welding.

Hey does anyone have pictures of this swap ?

I am interested in photos of front radiator support.

What do you use for the body lift ? I have a three inch body lift but what if i don't need it to be three inch. I am not sure how it would work if i cut them.

you WILL need to make body spacers for the core support and the fron cab mounts but the rear you can use a single 1" standard body puck.
