drag radial tire pressure
 

I made it out last weekend for some T&T,but my tires are just too hard to hook,just spun off the line (2.06 60foots).I am going to try a friends Hoosier 31x10.5x15 drag radials,what would be a good starting pressure? Thanks

I ran 15psi in my MT drag radials hooked real good

I was told by the outlaw guys that if you have to run much lower that 15-17 psi you need to do some suspension tuning.

At the track you want to run the pressure as high as you can while maintaining traction. Usually radials like a little bit higher pressure than bias-ply's do. I've never used hoosier DR's, but with mickey's I usually start around 22psi and start working your way down from there. Remember track prep and suspension setup are much bigger factors to traction when running radials.....they're not near as forgiving as bias-ply's.

15-18 at the lowest . A little change makes a big difference . You need a good low pressure gauge and take notes on your time slips or log book to study later .

20psi worked awesome today with a little street test on my favorite back road 60' stretch.. No burn out and 75% throttle rolling in to it very quickly. Helps I have the front end loose as a goose right now, squat dialed in to the rear suspension and most likely a 50-50 weight bias..

Super, what size radials are you running?

shhhhh go old school......get some white shoe polish ( the one with the sponge on the top) wipe it across the outside edge ( on the tread) then let it rip... the polish will be worn off where it touchs.....drop 1 lb for every 1/4" still on the tire or add 1 lb if it's completly worn off till you find the sweet presure..DON"T WORRY if the let and right sides are a pound or 2 diff its because of the weight being tossed maybe a bit more on one side

Wild,

I have a 315/60/15 MT ET Street Radial on it with a 12" wheel.

I actually have the sheetmetal fenders on it right now with no hood and took the plasma to the inner fenderwells. The glass should save another 30-50lbs over the way it sits right now.

I k ow it sounds dumb but air up ypur fronts for al there worth to cut down on rolling resstance

update....last week I went out,engine is 3 weeks old,had a 2.06 60foot and best of 13.85@99,this week I ran the hoosier drag radials with no other changes,left everything else the same best was a 1.72 60foot with a 12.72 @105,I couldn't believe the difference,now it is time to start tweaking and tuning,Thanks for everyones help,I hope next report will be low 12s,high 11s Brian

Nice. At least you are moving in the right direction. Once the motor loosens up you will be hitting your ET goals.

Yes ,I just used the DRs because a friend had them and said try them out.I stayed at 19 lbs all day just because it was fairly consistent,but can still play with tire pressure and jetting etc.I am sure with some tweaking a 1.6x 60 is possible,not bad for an all steel 67 short box,I do need to find some scales somewhere and weigh it. Alot of suspension tuning to try over the winter,but I am really pleased so far.

Thanks Super, alot of the guys on here were inspiring and helpful when I was building the truck.Its a great site full of info.
