any other fat guys...

have interference with the wheel?

i've got buckets in it now... with a stock wheel.. i'm wanting to put on a smaller 13'' grant i have, but the adapter makes it stick out another 2.5 inches..

I don't have a stock bench to compare but i seriously doubt it'll get me any more room, and my brother even says it's rather tight... and he's pretty normal.

Anyone wanna share what they've done? if there is anyone.

I raised my seat 1.5 inches. The steering wheel is pulled way. I needed the 1.5 inches to fit the 12" thumpers behind the seat. A benefit was that the steering wheel was moved slightly away too.

how did you pull it away?

I was looking at physically pushing the column down.. but haven't decided if that's the way to go.

i am using a wheel out of a late 80"s cavalier. that gained some room.the next thing may or maynot be safe.i removed the column and fabricated another bracket to weld to the one that holds the column to the dash with about 2.5" differance in lenght on the hole span. then remove the steering shaft from the box and column and compress it about 2.5" inches.the only thing i lost was the switch for the reverse lights was now where the column clamps to the firewall, so i use a toggle switch for them now. you dont lose all the compresion of the steering shaft so some people have told me it is safe , others say it is too risky. use your own judgement

I went to and early camero/vega steering wheel that is about 14" in diameter. I have measured other factory wheels, like a SS monte wheel from the 80's and it is about 15", the smaller diameter wheel does give you extra room. The other option is to go to a tilt wheel, that helps to.

I'm not too big to fit, but I am a full figured guy. If you don't have a tilt column get one. That will make a difference.

I took my steering column and moved it downward towards the firewall an inch. That meant that I had to change the mounting holes in the steering shaft, but I gained space for the driver. I also use an aluminum steering wheel with the appropriate adapter for mounting.

Re: any other fat guys...

The tilt column is the way to go for more than just a tight fitting tummy.

The reason I changed mine was because of the angle. With the slightly smaller billet wheel I installed the wheel blocked my view of the gauges, and was just at the wrong angle to be comfortable.

By adding the tilt I could adjust to a more comfortable driving angle and be able to see my gauges too.

Besides, I wanted my truck to have all the factory options I could put in it.
