WTB - 8 lug wheel... need ASAP

2 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone. sorry to pollute the regional page with business matters, but I am in desperate need of a matching 8-lug wheel for my c20. had a bad mishap with a uhaul trailer earlier this summer, and it left me down one wheel. including a couple pics of the busted wheel.:waah:

any leads or help much appreciated.

What is the size of the rim?

I bet you caould straighten that one enough with a BFH to get the tire to seal until you find one?? I have beat them worse than that so they hold air....it wont be real pretty but it will work and then you'll have a spare

maybe a dumb question, but what is a BFH? wonder if a tire shop could do it?? I may try that until something else comes up. can't be any worse than the 42 year old spare tire I'm using now!

Thanks guys.

Is it a 16.5,8.25 or 9.75?

if there are two choices, and the stock ones were thinner, then it is a 9.75. The BF tires that are one there (and on busted wheel) are about 1.5-2" wider than the spare tire is...

reading your comment more clearly the second time... it is def NOT a 16.5. and because of my above remark I speculate it is a 9.75. I can/will confirm this evening.

thanks.

BFH = big f'n Hammer...a dead blow would work best also I use a very large adjustable clamp it down on steel parts and use the leveage to bend it back ..alittle heat may not hurt

Jordan,
You mentioned in the GOG thread that you were running your spare. Is the spare wheel the right size? Do you need wheel and tire or just wheel?
In regards to the size...go read the numbers off the side wall. The 9.75 does not refer to the same thing that the 16.5 refers to. If it is a 9.75 then it is prolly a 16.5 X 9.75. If it's not a 16.5, it may be something like a 235/85 R16.

Once you find out the size, let me know. If the tires and rims I am looking at will work to hold my suburban up, I might consider selling one of the rims. Not sure what size I have yet, but can check this week sometime. Shipping might be a pain

Hey there Longhorn! I just need the wheel, I think the tire is okay. Eventually I will need to replace all four (five with spare), but no $$ right now for that! so 16.5 is the OD of the rim and 9.75 the width I assume?

in any case, I'll check them out in a few hours and report back tonight.

Sorry I wasn`t clear. The wide wheels that these trucks ran were 16.5" diameter and available in two widths,8.25" and 9.75".The size should be stamped into the rim.Maybe some weren`t.More recently there are custom built 16" diameter wheels offered in 8" and 10" width by companies like Stockton Wheel.

Oh OK,those are standard factory or factory-type wheels. They are much easier to find, yet have not been used for many years. It looked wider in the picture. They are heavy to ship, but you may get one offered as cheap as free.

This truck is in the new pullapart on Whitehorse Road in Greenville,SC. Maybe a Greenville member could check it out in the next day or so and see if there is a wheel in it somewhere. I'd do it for you but I'm going to be tied up the next few days and won't get a chance

Best I can remember it has a small bung in the center on the bottom just above the bumper. Not bad though

you know anyone in particular I should speak with?

Longhorn, no prob, let me know when you can.

I went to a couple of shops yesterday and they each told me that they couldn't 'repair' the busted wheel because the bent part extends onto the bead, which 'will never be trued again.'

the hunt continues...

Jordan,

I have 5 wheels to go on the '76. I just looked and I have 3 that are 16 X 6, 1 that is 16 X 7 and 1 that is 16 X 8.5. Looks like I need some help too. What size is your spare? Maybe we can do some trading?
Dwayne

spare is 16x6x6 (not sure what the last x6 is for but that's how it's stamped)

we've got a mixed batch!
