Squeeky Column - Suggestions?
So this is just a little annoying and would love to get rid of it. I have a little squeek in the steering column. It is near the top (steering wheel) and squeeks when I turn. A realize this could be a whole host of things, but I thought I'd just throw it out there to see if anyone else has experienced something similar.
BTW - its a tilt column. Thanks for your thoughts. :canada: :bowtie: :flag: |
Pull your steering wheel off, lube everything and then put a custom wheel back on ! Tell your wife your steering wheel went out and you had to get another one.

Sounds like the horn ring maybe be rubbing. Easy fix. For instructions on tearing down and replacing back look here http://home.t-online.de/home/O_Scholz/steering.html

Mine squeaks too, but hopefully I can fix that when I tighten up the tilt.

Mine sweaks bad too. Unfortunately, the screws kept coming out (scary isn't it? Try to turn too fast and.. oops! there goes the steering wheel) so I put some threadlocker in it. I'm just going to live with it for now. {BTW you should hear our 99 Tahoe... it is VERY loud and "farts". We have tried getting the dealership to fix it... several times... but that was a fiasco and a half.}
I had to install the adaptor kit upside down for the wheel to be properly alligned. (when I got the truck the steering wheel was 30 degrees right while the truck was going straight) This is what I think is causing my problem. Check the screws holding the adaptor on & tighten them down. Think about putting threadlocker on them too. It could also be the trim under the adaptor. Make sure it isn't bent or dented. |
