A 2-bolt block with main studs is quite strong so it is not junk. It is a good foundation to build on. |
Re: engine identification
use to be a myth around that all 010 blocks where high nickle blocks, I think that was disproved a few years ago.

Re: engine identification
so how do i know if its a high nickel block
|
Re: engine identification
there will be a casting there also. I have been thinking about who told me all this. It was an old man that has had a machine shop for ever and a day. just like there are better metal in cranks there were better metal in some blocks. He told me about this about ten years ago when I tool a block into him to get it machined. I wrote this stuff down somewhere but I thing it is at my office. If I cant find it i will give him a call monday and get the info from him again.

Re: engine identification
010 020 under the timing cover is high nickel block
|
Re: engine identification
That's correct, the 10 20 indicates the nickel and tin percentages
|
Re: engine identification
remember a 2 bolt can be turned into a 4 bolt
|
Re: engine identification
Actually the 10 would mean the there was 1% more tin to help the metal flow into the cast and the 20 means 2% more nickel was used to make it stronger and it is in the front and rear of the blocks. HIGHLY desired

Re: engine identification
Any idea what vintages the high nickel block was made?
|
Re: engine identification
ok i just checked out my block ana it said 010 but directly under that is has 020 then 501 and on the other side it says G18 512 532
anyone know what any of this means?!? |
Re: engine identification
010 020 is high tin high nickel. its a good base for a performance build. the block is a bit sturdier
|
Re: engine identification
