Who has a REAR Sway Bar?
Are you guys running a rear sway bar in the rear? My truck is so LOW that it would that installing a rear sway bar would sit even lower. Do you have any pics of a rear sway bar installed? What are the benifits of a sway bar in the rear?

Re: Who has a REAR Sway Bar?
I have one off an 89 Trans Am. Its hard to find them for a rear coil set up. This thing runs above the axle tubes and over the pumpkin. Its 2" wider than it needs to be, so 1" wider on each side. I welded up a 1" deep 4" tall and 2" wide piece of satinless to the frame and bolted it up to that w/ grade 8 harware. I will take som pics of it and post it up

I have one from Early Classic. It hangs below the differential, but I haven't had it high center on anything yet. The truck is fairly low also. I put a picture with a tape measure for reference. The only thing I did different was in the instructions, it came with some wimpy little clamps. I tossed those and bolted the bushing straight to the trailing arm.

Re: Who has a REAR Sway Bar?
For some reason that just looks wrong to me. Maybe it's because it is the complete opposite of the way a front sway bar is attached.

Re: Who has a REAR Sway Bar?
How much did you guys buy it for? A place is selling one here in AZ for $50. Im considering it!

How about the handling. Did it make a big difference? |
Re: Who has a REAR Sway Bar?
Yeah it helped. It's pretty stiff with the lowered springs. I was thinking about softing up the spring rate a bit, but after driving my 2500HD and putting some more miles on the '65, it doesn't feel too bad. It gets a little upset on the really fast bumps, but on a smooth road, it stays very flat. I just checked my receipts, and I actually got it from Summit Racing. It's a Hellwig brand. The Summit # is HEL-7401. In the year 2000 it was $129.69 now it's $253.69. I guess they think it's twice as good now. 50 bucks is a steal.

Re: Who has a REAR Sway Bar?
...since I was out of room with my truck being so low, I did a torsion bar through the frame for the rear end. I needed to install a cross member behind the rear end housing anyway, so I used some leftover tubing and went with a splined sprint car-type torsion bar and arms.

A year later.....

I suppose you can use whatever you want as far as the spacer. I had the stainless piece on hand so I went with it. Your going to need 2.75" muffler clamps instead of the u bolts that come from the camaro/trans am and will also need to make the holes on the bushing hold down a little bigger. |
Re: Who has a REAR Sway Bar?
I used a late 70S 4x4 front sway bar mounted above and behind the the diff,
but you could mount it in front for fuel tank clearance I don't have pics because I took it off, it made the truck oversteer (loose) |
