Cross member question

2 Attachment(s)
I recently picked up a short frame rolling chassis and noticed that the cross member where the trans. support bolts is a lot less heavy duty than the one on a long bed. Is this standard for a short frame? Can it be changed to the heavier one? Why are there two types? Thanks, Shawn:chevy:

Re: Cross member question

It looks like someone cut the brackets off that go to the top of the frame to make it easier to remove. Auto trans crossmembers are the same regardless of wheelbase. I'd swap yours in.

Camaros, and probably other cars had ones similar to that.

I've often thought about putting something a little easier to remove in there.

Re: Cross member question

someone removed the upper legs off the crossmember.
I would swap them out and install the good one. This piece does help stiffin things up a tad bit, even though it is a PITA to remove.
