LS engine computer.
I have seen , and thought about doing an LS engine swap, but what about the computer. This would go into a 1953 Chevy pickup. As far as geting the engine and trany, and puting them in, that is just fab work that I could do. But what are you guys doing for the computer. What does it cost to send it somewhere to have it modified, or do you have to? I have read you need to get the wireing and computer with the engine/trany, but then what? Thanks.

Re: LS engine computer.
It depends on the transmission. If you run a TH400 , 700R4 or a 4L60/80e. You need the engine harness at minimum and the trans harness if you run an e version trans. LS1truck.com or LT1swap.com has some good info.
I'm looking at this same swap for a 58. The harness is the expensive part. I see companies will reprogram the PCM for $75 and redo the harness for up to $600. |
Re: LS engine computer.
IMHO if your going for the engine why not get overdrive while your at it?
There are websites that will help you do your harness yourself to many others that charge as little as $300 up to $795 for a completely new harness. I have decided on letting fellow board member 68 short step do mine. He has been very good at answering all my questions and I have seen his work all over this forum. He may not be the cheapest but you do get what you pay for. You need the rear 02 sensors and VATS along with a couple of other things programmed out of the computer. I have not seen any as cheap as $75 but have seen $125-300+ |
Re: LS engine computer.
I had my factory harness reworked for stand alone operation along with a pcm reprogram to eliminate vats and unwanted items along with a performance tune for around $300 by Jesse at wait4me performance

Re: LS engine computer.
Speartech reworked my computer & built my custom harness. Cost was approx. $1250.00 total, not cheap, but first rate quality & stands behind his product. I'll be using Speartech again for my next project.
