narrowed rearends
 

just wondering how many guys have narrowed rear ends under there trucks!! what did you use ? how much did you narrow ??? 10 bolt , 12 bolt, 9in, s10, ?? how wide did you go on tires after it was narowed ive seen big tires on these truck without narrowng im just wondering about rearends that are narrowed!! im sure this is posted somewhere too ! but im starting to get the rearend stuff together!!

alot of us are just using wheels with a good amount of back spacing .... I'm haveing a set of sock rallies widened to 12" for a set of fatties ot you can buy something....just keep in mind that if you get to wide your going to need to tub it :metal:

Tubbing is no problem, How much back spacing can you go before getting into the springs ?

I've heard of moving the springs inboard, Thoughts on that ?

Also, Where can you get wheels widened at ?

my truck is a 70 so I have swing arms....just a quick measurement on your truck and you'll know I would look under your truck and decide how much you want to spend..If I was going to go though that I would put in a 4 link

12 bolt truck rear with Moser big Ford axle bearing housing ends
end to end measures 44"
Convo-Pro 15x14 with 4 1/2" backspace
31x18.50R15L Hoosier Pro-Street Radials with 18" sectional width and 14.5" tread width......tire to inside of lip 2 3/4"
33x16.00-15 Goodyear Eagle slicks with 19.90" sectional width and 16.30" tread width......tire to inside of lip almost 1"

If you aren't going to crazy with the power you can get something from narrower vehicle. I know a guy that put a 8.5 inch 10 bolt from a car under his truck and it worked well and tucked the wheels in a little.

You can also check out a 8.5 inch 10 bolt from an S10, or even a Ford 8.8 from an Explorer as they are both pretty narrow. The 8.8 would be preferable as it's comparable in strength to 12 bolt.. You will need to have the axles redrilled for 5x5 but it's less work that narrowing a rear.

S10's came with a 7.5" rear and don't hold up well to a great deal of power in stock form. 10 bolts are pretty strong. An 8.8 from a Mustang would be ideal, that's a tough rear and newer ones come with disc brakes. Trouble is 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern but you can have that redrilled.

Are you just looking for fat meats or a deep offset? Seems fat meats can tuck with a stock frame and the right offset wheel. Maybe widening the tubs just a bit too?

Wheel Vintiques makes steel rallies up to 14" wide and will do custom offsets. I ordered 6 lug Corvette style rallies for my 76 Burby in 15x8. They were cheaper through Summit Racing than direct through Wheel Vintiques. That was several years ago, but I imagine that's still the case.

Thanks Ben,

I'm running a small block @ about 350hp. It won't be a racer or DD, Only cruise nights and shows like my 97. Was just looking at bigger meats to bump the wow factor up a half notch without breaking the bank.

Guess I'll have to wait till I get the cab and bed back on and do some measuring if no one chimes in with specs..... ;)

This is perfect. The total width of rear should be 49" with axles. wms to wms

the mustang pre 94 were 4 stud right ? are we talking a 94 on mustang rearend or an explorer rear end? the stud pattern wouldn't be a problem to leave as the wheel would only be suitable for the rear that wide!!!!
how wide are the stang or explorer rearend anyone know????

I think you may not understand. If you are refering to the "housing ends" these are aftermarket housing ends that are welded to a narrowed stock rear. They are better for a couple of reasons:
1. they eliminate the c-clips that are vulnerable at high hp/torque
2. they incorporate a wide sealed bearing at the axle end which is pressed on the axle itself and held in place with a retainer/collar that keeps the axle in the housing in case of axle failure.

14 bolt cab and chassis axles are narrow, if you want 8 lugs :lol:
