Poll: Is your frame too high for your rolling floor jack?
 

Just wondering if I am the only one with this "fun" problem.

he might need to swap an axle, but even then he could jack up by the axle and then put jack stands under the frame. So back to willet's question.

I lift by the axles,then place the stands under the frame when doing work that requires the axles free.I use a 4x4 or 6x6 block of wood when needed.You can lift the axles,remove tires,let down drum and rotors down onto wood,the lift the frame from a lower point thsn stock.

I lift by the axle and even then I can barely get the tires off of the ground and 6 ton stands fully extended barely reach the frame

I generally take 6 or 8 pieces of 3/4" boards cut about 14" x 14" and stack them, then put my jack stands on them, otherwise my jack stands don't reach the frame. You can kind of see what I'm talking about in this pic

The only time I don't need a wood block is if I'm jacking up using the bottom of the diff otherwise wood is needed.
12Ton jackstands are what I use to hold the frame/body when I drop out an axel :metal:
Otherwise like YJ w/5Ton you need to raiseum up w/wood.

I never saw it as a hassle jacking any of the lifted trucks Ive had since`77.If I saw it as a hassle I know the solution...I wouldn`t lift a truck.A stock 4wd isn`t exactly much different.

What I`ve found is there`s no need to jack a truck up unless you`re removing tires(lift axles) or a rare axle removal.Then I lift,take tires off,let down lower on short stands,lift truck off axles,support with big stands,put jack under axle,lift enough to pull stands,roll axle out...not any pain at all.Pretty much how any axle swap would go.You definaitely need bigger stands than the standard car ones.I have two big and two small.I`d like to double that up to be equipped for whatever.

too tall for cheap jack stands and 7' garage doors..you would think these homebuilders, who drive trucks, would help a brother out..

I`m a builder and will give any size door you want to pay for.The standard is 7' and attached garages are traditionally intended for cars.Trucks belong outside or in real garages with real doors.Most house elevations limit what height can be used.Mos don`t wan`t a large door for they detract from aesthetics.:cool:

On my mudder my floor jack wont even think about the frame. :lol:

Its under the axle and two 5 ton jack stands on 2 two foot long oak 12"X12s"

I have a pair of 7 ton Gray air operated end lifts, used together I can raise a truck 5 feet off the ground. Also have a Gray air lay down jack that is good for using under a differential to lift up to 3 ft. If my ceilings were high enough I would love to have a 4 post lift.

i have to use pallets i made for my jackstands out of 2x4's and i have to make a ramp for m jack to be able to fully lift the front tires..

i did my axle swap with my tires maby two inches off the ground.. BUT i did it sitting straight up under the truck no problem
