Strippin' paint
 

Worked for about 3 hours today with a DA and 80 grit and only got about 80% of one rear quarter done. There has got to be a better way. What do you guy's suggest?

a electric drill with q wire brush atachment and a grinder with a wire wheel worked great for me. This method will remove body filler be aware. This mothod will take it all the way to the bone.

I went to Home Depot, because I frequently do. Pick up some Klean Strip KS-Premium. It honestly worked really well for me. I was able to strip both doors in one night. Good Luck

i agree with the aircraft! before you put it on, scratch the paint, it will let the aircraft dig into and under the paint! be sure to use THICK gloves goggles and a GOOD respirator!

I used a Harbor freight/Eastwood Co. sandblaster on all my panels, inside and out. I've always heard this should never be done because of the possibility of warping the sheetmetal.

Well, they must be talking about the big industrial sandblasters, because I couldn't produce enough heat if I tried. The summer sun heats the sheetmetal 100x more!

It worked very well, IMO.

I tried a DA sander also...I gave up quickly with that:lol:. I ended up buying some Clean and strip disc's for my angle grinder.
They worked well but keep them moving to avoid heat build up. Used the same to strip my hood and doors. I still sent my stuff to the sandblasters to get the area's that could not be stripped with the disc's.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have the bed done but I will try some of your methods on the cab and front end. This DA is just to slow!

Aircraft stripper is definately the easy way to go. It is harsh on the paint and you. It will burn your skin so be careful but it easily takes multiple layers of paint off and quickly.Buy some disposable scrapers because the paint/stripper mix hardens like a rock.

I have recently been stripping my truck bed down and the easiest way I have came across is to use an 10" Wire wheel on a Air Grinder and it has stripped off all the way to bare metal in no time.. I have one side of the bed stripped down inside and out in one night. The trick to using this wire wheel is after time flipping it over and creating the wires to move the other direction. also This wire wheel has not caused me any problems due to heat or scratching of the metal at all. but do remember to wear safety glasses incase the wire goes flying off.

Aircraft stripper is pretty much the best on the market, if you don't mind the smell.
