Mudtrap problem
Hey all,
I have a problem with my mudtrap in my truck (i think thats what its called). It the very front right of my truck and it seems that water is pooling in it and causing it to rust from the inside out...I drilled a hole to let water escape but it still seems to find a way in there and makes a nice little rust mud that i have to claw out every once and a while. any suggestions would be great Matt |
Re: Mudtrap problem

Here is a pic http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...IMG_0473-1.jpg Its on the inside of where i circled Matt |
Re: Mudtrap problem
Just keep it clean. Flush it out every time you wash it. Coating it on the inside with a good rust paint will help. I would think by drilling a hole in it may worsen your rust problem.

Re: Mudtrap problem
A factory Fender has what is called a "Weep Slit" built in the cup and also in other places on the truck to let water drain out.
I dont know if the reproduction Fenders have this or not. Somtimes the Weep Slit can get pluged up from road debris, I just had this happen on my pass side door, on a day after a heavy rain, I opend the door to get somthing and when I closed the door it closed better than ever with a nice heavy & solid thud but I also heard the sound of water sloshing around in it. So to let the water drain I just slid a Knife up into the slit and opened it right up. |
Re: Mudtrap problem
The door slits are bad about this also.I cleaned mine every time I washed then realized if I replaced the window seals and fuzzies the water couldn't get in.The fender cups always seem to collect water and the passenger side has the added battery drip problem.
