best procedure for door install
 

I'm fixin to put my doors back on. Never done it before.
My plan:
Bolt hinges to door, setting them at the middle of the slots.
Set door in cab (put a paint paddle under the bottom to hold it up off the rocker?)
Hold it and get the gaps looking like I like, and then tighten the hinges up on the cab.

I can see a million things going wrong with this process :lol:

I don't know... what's the best procedure for putting a door on and getting it aligned?

My experience on doing this is limited but the few times I've done it I shimmed like you're planning on doing and the rest was strictly trial and error. Mostly move top or bottom one at a time until you get it the way you want it.

Might help if you can get a buddy to help you.

Take the striker off the door jamb before you start so you don't accidentally get the door jammed tight & unable to open.
Replace the striker after you get the door adjusted to where you want it.

i use engine hoist to hold door while i boltup hinges

If they are painted, make sure you tape up the edges to help avoid dinging them up!

I used a 14" 4 X 4 on a floor jack balanced it the best I could started those bolts in the door. These are doors are heavy even with a helper. Pay attn. to the fine threaded bolts in the hinges..They are easy to cross thread.

I bolt the hinges to the post, then set the door on my knee and bolt it to the hinge. When empty, these doors are light as far as doors go. These trucks are about the easiest thing there is to hang a door onto. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. Make sure you clean the threads with a tap and die first. This alone will make things much easier.

1. Get it hung and to the point where it swings without binding.
2. Adjust up/down so the body crease lines matches in the up/down direction by adjusting the bolts on the body pillar. Also adjust for front/back clearance at this time.
3. Put the latch plate back in and adjust latch plate bolts so the the door is level to the body right at the latch plate. You may have to add/delete latch plate spacers. Use a straightedge to check for alignment. If don't have weatherstrip, pull out on the door when you measure.
4. You can then move the top and bottom hinges in and out until the door is parallel to the body. You do this by adjusting the bolts on the door. Also check alignment at the front roof pillar where it meets the door body at this time.
