35's with a 4" lift
 

I have a 68' and I'm going to swap axles with a 70' 4x4 and was wondering if anyone knows if I can fit 35's with a 4" lift without moding the fenders. Any help will be appreciated thanks!!

I can't answer your question but I can tell you that the offset of your rims plays a big part in weather or not your tires will rub on the inner fenders or not. What rims are you running?

You might have a problem finding a 4" lift for a 68'. I think 67-68's are the years that take a special lift kit compared to 69-72'. There is something different about the frame or leaf spring mounts. I have the same lift kit has mstrav has on his truck, 4" Rancho and it clears 35" BFG mud terrains without any rubbing at all on 8" wide rims. http://i481.photobucket.com/albums/r...digital121.jpg Trevor

Is it the leaf springs for 67-68 that are shorter and would be the issue? If he's just swapping in axles from the 70 that shouldnt matter should it?

The swapping of axles wouldn't really affect the lift kit. There is something special about 67-68 frames that I know 69-72 lift kits won't work with. Something was brought up awhile back about the issue, but I don't remember what is is. I have never owned a 67-68 to know. Trevor

I dont recomend runnung 36's like I have on mine unless you are NOT going to be off roading. As a matter of fact....be carefull with 35's also. This is 4" lift. Oh yea....."For Sale"

I am installing a 4" Rough Country lift on my 68 frame. I am having a few issues with fitting it. I couldn't find a lift for a 68, so I purchased a lift for a 69-72 with 56" springs. The first issue I ran into is that the spring eyes on the leaves are quite a bit narrower than the shackles. That is not too difficult of a problem to fix. The main issue I am having is that the 56" springs are still too short. On the rear end, the shackles contact the bracket before it is even off of the ground. When it is set back down, the shackles sit at about a 45* angle pointing towards the front of the truck. I do not have any reference photos, but I would think that the shackles should be near vertical when they are at rest? I would get some photos of the issues I have had, but I am currently deployed. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, let me know. I was thinking of relocating the rear shackle hanger forward a couple inches. Does anyone see any issues with doing this as long as the centerline of the axle stays the same?

I found a lift kit for a 67-68 Suburban. Is there a difference between the truck leaf springs and one's from a suburban? Does any one know?

My understanding is that the springs on 67&68 are 3" wide where as 69-72 the springs are 2.5" wide. The 56" long leafs are found on 1 tons and 52" long leafs are found on 1/2 and 3/4 tons. Hope this helps clear things up for you.:gmc2:
