6 pack and an hour of your time. THats all teh directions you need. Hardest part is getting the fan clutch off the water pump. There just as easy as a 5.7 water pump. I would suggest replacing both belts while you are at it. I have seen alot of a/c belts cracked.

Chances are you do not need a water pump but just the water pump gaskets. I see a lot of people spend hundreds of dollars on water pumps when they only needed $12 worth the gaskets.

They are the two metal gaskets on the right. GM Part number 12588372 and are less than $6 a piece.

Re: Water pump replacement on 02 Tahoe

I am revisiting this post because I replaced the water pump on my 2002 Tahoe on 5/29/2010 at 162000 miles and today I have 170000 a total of 8,000 miles only 5 months and it is leaking.

The water is coming from behind the power steering pump and dripping. I could not locate the peep hole to see if it leaking through it. That is the way you check I believe.

Can the pump go out that fast??

Would there be anything else to look at or for??

I replaced the gaskets when I did it would they be bad already??

umm what brand pump did you install, was it a new or rebuilt, auto aprts store special or gm pump. did you install the gaskets dry or with rtv? and to anser yes the pump can but it it is a higher end pump then i'd say they pump shouldn't be bad and it is a set of gaskets.

depending on the warranty of the pump i'll take it off and take it back and get a new set of gaskets with .

the weep hole should eb behind the pullie

left side gasket was leaking at bottom running down block and on to the floor.

Bought new gaskets and it is good so far, time will tell!
