Rebuilding brake calipers removing dust boot

Anyone ever rebuild these themselves?

Doesn't seem difficult at all but I am having a hell of a time removing the old dust boot to install the new one... Anyone have any tips??? Just don't see the point in buying new calipers that are remaned if I can do it myself...

JN, I spent 30+ years working for GM and used to do this for myself until I priced rebuilts from NAPA. At $17 you can't go wrong. I have a set on mine now and they are just fine. If your going to do it yourself anyway, remove piston and then use a small chisel and knock the seal inward at a low angle and the seal will bend and pop out. jim

You have to use air pressure to get the piston out first then you can get the dustboot off. thats the only way they will come off.
and due to this like the other poster said its less hassle to go get the others.

I just used a flat tip screw driver and got that ring out... I used air to get the piston out, had it out already, just had trouble getting the ring out... I figured for under $5 to rebuild the whole thing was worth it... They were trying to sell me some rebuilt ones for about $40 a pop :smoke:... thanks guys!

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics, but I included a link below that was a huge help and should point anyone in the right direction, at least for these trucks :chevy:... there are several step by step videos...
