Another Column shift sloppy linkage problem

During my build of my 69 GMC C-1500, I replaced the Steering Column with a re-built CPP unit. I replace the stock linkage with a Kugal unit. The Tranny is a Re-built Turbo 350. So...all components are new. When I first started driving the truck on the street back in May, the shifter was fairly tight and you could feel a slight detent action when using the shifter. Not as much detent as I would like, but acceptable. Now, the shifter has become very sloppy. I've got about 1 inch of play in the linkage. Also, My Neutral Safety switch is not working, I think this also related to linkage slop. Where is the detent plate located? Internal or external to the T-350?

Any thoughts on what the problem may be?

Thanks,
Dale
