C-20 to K-20 body swap
Thought I would share my current project, that I finally started. Have had the parts for over a year.
Started out with this. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...2_03/83C20.jpg And this past Tuesday started the frame swap. Enjoy http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0706001525.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...706001525a.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...706001525b.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0706001703.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...706001703a.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0706001733.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0706001856.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0707001617.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...707001617a.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0707001620.jpg :gmc2: Now just to find time to get the drive train installed. Re: C-20 to K-20 body swap
Got it home, and started doing some more prep work.
Trying to see if I can retain the AC location from the LS engine. Made my own mounts, seems to be working ok. Need to adjust the motor mounts at the frame, it doesn't want to sit down in the mounts like it should. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ploads/149.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ploads/152.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ploads/160.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ploads/163.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ploads/166.jpg |

Re: C-20 to K-20 body swap
It currently has the engine and trans between the frame rails as well as the double din Delco CD player installed. Making progress slow but sure!

Re: C-20 to K-20 body swap
I always wondered what one of those factory CD players would look like installed.

Re: C-20 to K-20 body swap
So did you have to install a body lift to accommodate for the difference in the 2wd and 4wd tranny hump in the cab?

Re: C-20 to K-20 body swap
Looking good - You have me about convinced to quit looking for a diesel replacement.
Need to stop by and see this some time and pick your brain. Since I'm still picking parts would I be better off picking up a TBI harness on the firewall side since mine is a diesel to make this hook up easier? What Tranny and T/C you going to use? Got the 400/208 now. |
Re: C-20 to K-20 body swap
The 5.3 is no slouch plus they are easy to come by if you blow one up. Not so with a 6.0 engine.
With a cam, headers and a good tune a 5.3 will make over 360 hp to the rear wheels. Add in a 70 mm turbo and an intercooler with a Z06 Vette cam and it will make low 600's to the rear wheels with a stock bottom end and unported heads. |
Re: C-20 to K-20 body swap
Any cross member issues?

I heave ho'd the transfer case in tonight. Then had to pull it back down once I saw the gasket laying on the bench.... DOH... So on the second attempt its mounted. I was able to measure for shafts tonight. Plan to visit a buddy's stash and see if I can find a close fit. And for the record, YES the NP241(27spline) mounts directly to the tail end of the 4L60E with no issues! |
