You have a key off drain follow this thread to test http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=33198 the previous two posters named some common key off drains so as part of the test also unplug the horn relay and alternator.

Then there is a good chance that this is where your problem is. Disconnect the plug-in connector at the relay and see if the drain stops. The relay itself likely isn't bad, but the wire going from the relay to the steering wheel could be shorted to ground at some point, causing the relay coil to draw power all the time. If the relay feels warm when you touch it, this is a sure sign.

if the machine says your alt is bad... I would start there.
While the engine is running, and not charging the battery, then you are running directly off the battery and running it down, untill it is dead.

Have you tried unplugging the horn relay yet? I'm not saying that's the only possibility, but it sure won't cost you anything to try it.

no. because i thot it was the alt. but ill give it a go tomorrow. do i unplug all three wires? i believe thers a black ,red, green???

Re: 72 lb battery killer

its a single plug, they'll all three come off together. Listen for a click insude the relay as you unplug it. If it cliks, then you found the problem.

If your alternator is good and charging your battery then you got a serious power drain some wheres in your system. You gotta stuck going through everything I would start with simple stuff first and go from there. Do you have an aftermarket stereo stuff or light stuff in your truck that is wired to a constant hot?
