71 body on 68 frame questions
im in process of swapping my 71 k20 body onto the 68 k20 frame i have, my plans with this truck are to be competing in tuga truck pulls and i was lookin into about a 4inch lift. but alot of talkin with some buddys of mine that have built these trucks have told me that lifting a 68 truck is a nightmare... im wondering what is the problem with it is and what all im gonna have to do to make will, also im wanting to run 4 inch lift springs front and rear, no blocks.. thanks!!

Re: 71 body on 68 frame questions
im not completely sure but i think the 68 has narrower springs. any particular reason you are swapping to the older frame?

Re: 71 body on 68 frame questions
68 frame has longer rear springs, your better off with a shackle flip. Also the front axle is drum, closed knuckle so finding parts is near impossible. Other than that there are small differences but you shouldn't have much issue.

Re: 71 body on 68 frame questions
well im throwing a 14bolt and a 60 under it, and the frame on the 71 is in rough shape

Just the set up I have. 71 cab on a 68 frame with D60 and 14 bolt.

Re: 71 body on 68 frame questions
Not really a big deal if the lift uses rear blocks. I assume you will be running traction bars so axle wrap due to the blocks will not be an issue. I run a 68 k-20 frame with the 69-72 4 inch lift (front springs and rear blocks) and it works fine. The 68 rear springs are 56" long and are wider at the eyes than the 69-72 versions.
