LS1 exhaust manifolds
I have a 4.8 LS engine from a 2007 GMC pickup in my 56 cameo. I need a set of exhaust manifols from a Camaro or firebird to give me clearance at the frame rails. I just found a set from a 2000 Camaro. Does anyone know if they will fit?

Re: LS1 exhaust manifolds
Since you weren't getting any replies, I moved this for ya to our new LSX forum.

Re: LS1 exhaust manifolds
The stock manifolds from my 5.3 motor fit in my 87. I know its not a 56, but they hug the block fairly close and exit towards the rear which may help you?

Re: LS1 exhaust manifolds
I am also looking for the same info on my LQ4 swap into a '67. I have read that the stock passenger manifold will not clear the frame on my year model. But that around a '98 f-body manifold will clear. I believe that is the same year as 2000. I have also read that the new Trailblazer SS wil fit and may even help with hp.
This is just info that I have been able to piece together, maybe someone who has actually tried these things will post up. |
Re: LS1 exhaust manifolds
I tried the F-body manifolds and they were the opposite of the stock manifolds. One fits the other doesnt without major frame surgery. I used Sanderson CSLS1 shortie headers, they were the most cost effective and they fit without any frame mods, however there are some LT headers that also work well, Doug THorley I think. I have also heard the TB-SS manifolds work also, but I have no experience with them tho.

Re: LS1 exhaust manifolds
You can also scratch GTO manifolds off the list, they stick out too far from the block. I just bought a set of Hooker LS1 block huggers, ceramic coated off Ebay straight from Holley for $200...they would fit almost anything, so tight to the block.

Re: LS1 exhaust manifolds
I am using the trailblazer SS manifolds and have plenty of clearance. They look like they were made to fit my truck. A little harder to find than the camaro/firebird manifolds but worth it IMHO. I do have a set of 2000 F body manifolds that I didn't use because I found the trailblazer SS ones.

I have stock truck manifolds and Fbody manifolds. I had read that the SS manifolds worked great, I found a set and never even tried any of the others. |

I am running 2005 SSR manifolds in my 65. Same as Trailblazer SS I believe. They hug the engine and mount without any interference including the stock heat shields.
I am mounted 1" forward of the original 283 for rear space and 5/8" higher for pan clearance. I am running the stock SSR engine mounts on fabricated perches off the crossmember, so they are out of the way of everything. Here are some pictures from the final test fit. On the road now. TR |
Re: LS1 exhaust manifolds
My LY6 manifolds didn't fit with the ECE mounts...but the new ones I plan on using will move the motor back far enough that I think they are going to fit. Won't matter much as I plan on using headers.

I also have a 56 and I'm using corvette LS1 manifolds on my 5.3. They fit great for me...
