Steering Column Seal

Before I have this column completely apart for no reason, can anyone tell me how to change the firewall seal at the end of the column? It is a 72 with auto. I am guessing somehow those levers need to come off but I haven't a clue how? Can anybody help on this?

The column has to be removed from the truck. If you disassemble the column and remove the shift tube it makes it easier to change the seal but I have stretched the seal over the lever(s) being careful not to rip the seal.

The column is on my bench. I cannot get the turn signal switch out. It is hanging up on something. I took out the three screws but it seems like something is holding it in. I tried the stretch method and when it started ripping the seal I quit.

Remove the housing that is around the turn signal switch and it will make the removal of the switch a lot easier. The housing is held on by just a tight fit to the main body, be careful when removing and take your time!:chevy:

When I pulled my turn signal switch my column was still in the truck, along with the steering shaft. It was difficult and took a lot of fiddling but I got it out in one piece. Make sure you push the hazard signal button in. This will give you more clearance when trying to get the turn signal switch out. But with this thing on your bench, I would imagine you have more room to work with.

Now that you have the 3 screws out turn upper housing with switch counter clock wise and it should all slide out together.
